Can i sue my work for getting me a misdemeanor citation because they never told me i needed a guard card?

Can i sue my work for getting me a misdemeanor citation because they never told me i needed a guard card to be a bouncer in CA? I got a misdemeanor citation for being unlicensed security a few weeks ago and my work said that they will pay for it but now want me to pay for the certification. If i dont pay and get fired can i sue them for ruining my clean record and possibly making it harder for me to pursue my career in law enforcement.
